Woman Trying To Start Bible Group Mistaken For Kidnapper: PTHPD

Police say the woman really was just looking for new bible study group members.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A woman looking to start a new bible group was mistaken for a kidnapper recently in Parsippany, police said. She is not suspected of kidnapping anyone.

Police say they were alerted to a "suspicious" woman in the Home Good parking lot. A resident told police the woman approached her, saying she was new in town and wanted to start a bible study group.

The resident ran away and reported the woman to police, recalling social media posts that claim people use fake bible study groups as a way to kidnap people, police said.

A social media post about the incident spread quickly online, but police were quick to dispel any kidnapping rumors, saying, "This is NOT TRUE."

Police spoke to the woman and found that the woman is indeed new to Parsippany, and was trying to form a legitimate bible group for the Church she now belongs to.
