25 Point Pleasant Beach Students Honored As AP Scholars

The students all earned passing-or-better scores on AP Exams in a variety of subject areas. Some were sophomores and juniors at the time.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education honored 25 students who received AP Scholar Awards for their performances on Advanced Placement exams last spring.

Superintendent William Smith said the AP Scholar Awards honor students on three tiers, based on the number of tests where they scored 3 or above (on a scale of 1 to 5) and on their average score for all of their AP tests. A 3 is a passing score, and a 4 or 5 are high achievements.

Point Pleasant Beach had five students named AP Scholars with Distinction, one named an AP Scholar with Honor and 19 named AP Scholars. AP Scholars with Distinction are students who had an average of at least 3.5 for all the AP exams they took and scored 3 or higher on five or more of their AP tests. An AP Scholar with Honor is designated for students who have an average of 3.25 or better on all of their AP exams, and a 3 or higher on four or more of their exams. The AP Scholar designation is for student who score 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

Smith invited students who were present to come to the front of the auditorium to be honored, adding, "We know many of these students are away at college, but we wanted to highlight their achievements."

He noted that some of the students being honored were sophomores and juniors when they took their AP exams last spring.
