About 1,500 people crowded into Pavilion and onto the beach as Adam Lambert and then Train entertained the throngs at the WPLJ Summer Blast-off on Friday morning.

performed four songs and Train also performed several songs, followed by WPLJ playing recorded music as people hung out in the pavilion or on the beach. Some concertgoers left after Lambert, and some after Train had played their last tune. Others stayed in the pavilion or on the beach.

Jenkinson's has held the early Friday morning event for many years as an unofficial start of the summer season.

Neighboring cross streets appeared quiet in the late morning as the last of the WPLJ and TV crews were packing up to leave.

Point Beach Police Chief Kevin O'Hara said he was at the event from 6 to 9 a.m. and there appeared to be no problems. By early afternoon, he had gotten a report from his staff that there were no major problems.

"It was for the most part an orderly event," O'Hara said.

Skies were mostly gray during the event, but the sun kept trying to shine through. Looks like it will be trying all weekend, based on the forecast, but there is only a slight chance of rain through Monday.
