Dr. Reverend Gregory A. Oross Of Manasquan Dies At 93

Dr. Reverend Gregory A. Oross of Manasquan died peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017. He was 93.

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on February 10, 1924, Gregory attended New Brunswick High School. He entered the United States Navy at the outbreak of World War II. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor in the Pacific Theater for a time, and rose to the rank of Petty Officer First Class at his discharge.

After returning from service, he enrolled in Bloomfield College of New Jersey and met his future bride-to-be, Dolores. Upon graduation, after he earned a doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University and decided to turn his life towards God, Gregory entered the New Brunswick Theological Seminary to prepare for his career as a Presbyterian minister.

He served various parishes throughout the tri-state area, and, in 1962, was called on by the Central Presbyterian Church in Haverstraw, New York, to serve as pastor. There, he served as pastor and his wife Dolores was the musical director and parish administrator. They served their devoted parishioners for 20-plus years and retired in 1985.

Gregory returned to Manasquan, New Jersey where he spent many years showing his nephews how to prepare a proper sandwich, saltwater fish, follow Rutgers sports and appreciate the shore life. He also continued delivering his sermons in a graceful manner at every holiday gathering.

The Reverend was preceded by his wife Dolores in 2014. He is survived by his brother Eugene and Marianne Oross of Mantoloking, nephews Ervin and Carolee Oross of Pine Beach, Gregory Oross and fiancée Raeanne Anthony of Clark, and Alexander and Susan Oross of New Brunswick, as well as grandnephews Michael, Gregory, Samuel, Max and Jake, Andrew and Brendan, and one grandniece, Alexandra.

There will be a celebrant Mass of his life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church of New Brunswick. Following the Mass, his cremains will be committed at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan is in charge of arrangements.
