Fundraiser For Ailing Longtime Point Boro Fireman Raises $1,000

Donations still being accepted for Van Demark, who has stage 4 lung cancer

POINT PLEASANT, NJ - Jim Van Demark may have helped you during his 41 years as a Point Pleasant fireman.

Now he needs your help.

Van DeMark, who never smoked, recovered from Hodgkins lymphoma 30 years ago. His Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis earlier this year came as a shock.

The fire department's Ladies Auxiliary raised $1,000 to help with his medical expenses at a Dec. 2 spaghetti dinner, according to a story in the Ocean Star.

But more help is still needed.

"Everybody has reached out to us," Tanya Van Demark, Jim's wife said. "The love, support and prayers have been enormous and the whole thing has been extremely humbling to us."
