There is also a Girl Scout camp in Waretown, but there is no bus service from the Borough or Beach to the Amity Acres Day Camp in Waretown.
Both camps offer a lot of variety and fun for girls ages four through fifteen.
"Operated by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, both day camps provide an array of unique opportunities for girls to connect with nature and participate in fun, educational activities rooted in Girl Scout values and traditions," according to a prepared statement from the Girl Scouts.
"Imagine swimming, hiking, scaling a climbing wall, riding a zip line and learning how to use a bow and arrow," the statement says. "These are just some of the exciting activities available every week in addition to the equestrian, sport and culinary programs."
"The benefits of camp extend far beyond the summer," the statement says. "As they open their eyes to new adventures, girls gain self confidence, social skills and leadership qualities that they’ll take with them throughout their personal and professional lives.
"The supportive, caring and nurturing counselors help campers build courage and independence by making friends and taking on new challenges."
“I was pleased and amazed at how much my daughter grew last summer,” said one camper’s parent. “By attending camp she became more confident and, in addition, developed socially as she made new friends each week.”
Registration is available for both camps, but space is limited.
Week-long sessions at Amity Acres Day Camp begin June 27 and continue until August 19, while week-long sessions at Sacajawea Day Camp begin June 20 and end August 26.
Girls can register for just one week of camp or for longer periods.
Both camps offer optional before and after care.
You don’t need to be a Girl Scout to register. For more information or to register for camp, visit the websites at www.amityacresdaycamp.com and www.sacajaweadaycamp.com, or call (800) 785-2090, ext. 156.
