POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The Manasquan Inlet Tug of War contest has been postponed due to the nor'easter anticipated to soak the Jersey Shore on Sunday.

The postponement was announced Thursday by borough officials as forecasts for the storm suggested 50- to 60-mph winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding are possible Sunday into Monday.

The annual event now is set for Saturday, Oct. 18, officials said. The proceeds from the event support the recreation departments in Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach.

There will be road closures for the Tug of War, Police Chief Robert Kowalewski said.

  • Inlet Drive will be shut down at the intersection with Ocean Avenue to all but resident traffic.
  • Inlet Drive also will be completely shut down between the public restrooms and the Coast Guard station.
  • The intersection of Inlet Drive at Broadway will have police officers directing two-way vehicle traffic allowing access for residents and to businesses.

Residents in the affected areas are asked to plan ahead for the limited access to the inlet area, which will create travel delays.
