Jersey Shore Beach Report: Days To Enjoy, With Storms Possible
If you're looking for comfortable beach temperatures this weekend promises to be a good one.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ — The sweltering hot days that started the week may have eased off, but it looks to be a good beach weekend at the Jersey Shore.
Here's a look from Patch at the beach forecast for the weekend.
The National Weather Service is calling for moderate temperatures in the 80s at the beach through the weekend and leading up to the Fourth of July weekend. A few thunderstorms are possible but for the most part it should be a great weekend.

Rip current risk is moderate, which means swimmers and waders need to pay attention. The water is warming up but is still fairly chilly. Be safe this weekend and be sure to listen to the lifeguards.

JELLYFISH
From the state Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Jellyspotters
Clinging jellyfish continue to be a concern in shallow water for those who like to wade, particularly in areas where there is lots of underwater vegetation.
A post in the New Jersey Jellyspotters Facebook group earlier in June said significant colonies had been found in northern Barnegat Bay. The non-native species that delivers a powerful sting inhabits shallow water and has been found in the past in the Metedeconk River, upper Barnegat Bay and at scattered points in the Cape May area.
A reminder about how to treat jellyfish stings:
- Immediately after the sting, apply white vinegar. This stops any stinging cells that have not fired in the tentacles.
- Rinse the sting area with the salt water you are in (bay or ocean) to gently wash away any tentacles. Do not use bottled water to rinse as osmotic shock will cause stinging cells left behind to fire and continue to sting.
- Take a clean cloth/towel and wipe the area clean.
After, there are various ways to deal with the sting depending upon the severity. Over-the-counter pain medicine, Benadryl type OTC medicines, calamine lotion for itching.
