JERSEY SHORE, NJ — Summer is speeding by. If you haven't been to the beach but you're thinking about heading there this weekend, here's a look from Patch at the beach forecast.

The National Weather Service is calling for a mix of sun and showers this weekend, though Saturday should be sunny all day with comfortable temperatures. Sunday you should be prepared for rain.

Rip current risk is low except Sunday as the possible storms can increase the potential for rip currents. Swim only where lifeguards are present. Related: Rip Currents In NJ: What To Look For, How To Survive Them

JELLYFISH
From the New Jersey Jellyspotters

If you're concerned about jellyfish, bay beaches seem to be where people are encountering them most at the Jersey Shore, according to Paul Bologna, the Montclair State biology professor and jellyfish expert.

Bologna told Patch there haven't been significant reports of jellyfish on the ocean beaches.

"In those bay beaches, bay regions and lagoons, there's hundreds of them," he said. "When you look off your dock, they're just everywhere." Read more: Increase In Jellyfish Sightings Seen At The Jersey Shore, Report Says

Mushroom cap and bowling ball jellyfish have been the common wash-ups, he said. Posts in New Jersey Jellyspotters Facebook group have included photos of mushroom caps in particular. Bay nettles are out in force, especially in lagoons.

Because there are more jellyfish, there's an increasing chance of being stung. Bologna says treat stings with these steps: 1. Immediately after the sting, apply white vinegar. This stops any stinging cells that have not fired in the tentacles. 2. Rinse the sting area with the salt water you are in to gently wash away any tentacles. Do not use bottled water to rinse as osmotic shock will cause stinging cells left behind to fire and continue to sting. 3. Take a clean cloth/towel and wipe the area clean.

You can use over-the-counter pain medication, Benadryl-types of medicines and calamine lotion to treat itching.
