Jersey Shore Beach Report: Some Sunshine But Storms Possible
The beach weather has been a bit uneven this summer but you can still catch some rays as long as you're flexible. Check the forecast.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ — If you're headed to the Shore for the weekend for some relaxation and want to hang out on the beach, the weather may be a bit of a mixed bag.
Here is a look from Patch at the beach forecast. The National Weather Service is calling for the possibility of showers and perhaps some thunderstorms, but the chances are put at less than 50 percent. That means there's a better than 50 percent chance of sunshine.

JELLYFISH
From the state Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Jellyspotters
In the New Jersey Jellyspotters Facebook group there continue to be reports of bay nettles and some jellyfish on the oceanfront, though ocean encounters are much lower. Paul Bologna, the Montclair State biology professor and jellyfish expert, said jellyfish are always present in the waters along the Jersey Shore.

"They are mostly not problematic," he said in response to one post. There are lion's mane and sometimes Portuguese man-o-war jellies in the midsummer, and they can deliver painful stings. They also are larger and easier to see most of the time.
A reminder about how to treat jellyfish stings: Immediately after the sting, apply white vinegar. This stops any stinging cells that have not fired in the tentacles. Rinse with salt water from bay or ocean. Do not use bottled water to rinse as osmotic shock will cause stinging cells to fire and continue to sting. Then wipe the area with a clean cloth or towel. Use over-the-counter pain medicines or Benadryl-type medicines, and calamine lotion for itching.
