JERSEY SHORE, NJ — If you want to sit on the beach and soak up the warmth and sunshine, this weekend should be great for that. Swimming in the ocean? Maybe not so much.

Here is a look from Patch at the beach forecast for the second weekend of August.

The National Weather Service is calling for comfortable temperatures at the beach, though if you prefer it in the 90s, you'll want to bring a shirt or a jacket of some kind because it's expected to be breezy.

Rip current risk is high again this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. That means the danger to even the most experienced swimmers is significant. If you plan to go in the water, do so only on beaches where lifeguards are present. Do not swim after hours. JELLYFISH
From the New Jersey Jellyspotters

If you're planning to spend time wading in the bays or swimming in the lagoons, expect to encounter bay nettles. They have shown up early and in force this year all along the shore.

Paul Bologna, the Montclair State biology professor and jellyfish expert, shared a few articles in the last several days in the New Jersey Jellyspotters Facebook group about the early arrival of the pesky critters.

Ocean beaches have seen jellyfish as well, including moon jellyfish.

If you're headed to the beach, bring along some white vinegar and some calamine lotion. Bologna has offered these tips for treating jellyfish stings: Apply white vinegar immediately. This stops any stinging cells that have not fired in the tentacles. Rinse the sting area with the salt water you are in to wash away tentacles. Do not use bottled water to rinse as osmotic shock will cause stinging cells left behind to fire and continue to sting. Wipe the area clean with a clean towel or cloth. Benadryl or calamine lotion can help with itching, and over-the-counter pain medicines can be used for pain from the stings depending on the severity.
