The video, which has since been deleted, sees restaurant employees talking about customers who complained about high prices. See details:

BAY HEAD, NJ — A local brunch spot is facing backlash from community members after it posted a controversial TikTok where the co-owner said customers who complained about high prices can “f— off.”

Taylor Sam’s – which recently opened their new location in Bay Head and has additional locations in Brick and St. Petersburg, FL – had posted the video on their TikTok account before taking it down.

In the video (which has since resurfaced on Facebook), an employee tells viewers that “two rich people say that they’re never coming back here [Taylor Sam’s] because our prices are double than [a bleep redacts the previous restaurant’s name] prices were.”

“‘It’s very unfortunate because we’re local,’” the customers told the employee, who then says, “That is unfortunate.” After the employee asked the customers how their food was, the employee said the customers replied with “excellent.”

“I was just like ‘Well, we’re gonna have to get you back every once in a while if you enjoy the food,’” the employee said. “You pay for what you get, you know?...I feel like the richer you get, the less money you want to give away.”

After the employee explains this interaction to the viewer, the video cuts to him speaking with restaurant co-owner Dawn Spivak about the situation.

“Did you ask them where they’re standing?” Spivak asks. “...This is Bay Head, baby. Location, location, location.”

The employee then explains that the customer was comparing Taylor Sam’s prices to the previous restaurant that was there [implied to be Dune Grass Cafe], and that the customer told him they’re “literally double than the last place that was here.”

“Yeah, well, our food is double the quality and double the flavor,” Spivak replies. “You can double go and f— off.”

After the video surfaced, the restaurant faced pushback from community members online.

“Very unprofessional of them to post that video, especially publicly,” one Facebook user said. “They’ll make their money from the summer crowds, not locals.”

“Wow! What a disgusting video this is!” Another user wrote. “I hope it gets the attention it deserves. I have worked in Bay Head for years and we have never had this attitude towards our customers.”

“That’s the way to go out of business quick…” said a third user.

"Why would they even record something like this and then go and post it ???!!!" a fourth user questioned. "Def not a smart business move...whether the food is good or not. And considering they just got here!"

In a phone call with Patch, Taylor Sam’s management declined to comment on the video. When reached by NJ Advance Media, co-owner Scott Spivak apologized and explained what led to the video being posted.

“We usually work with our marketing manager to get final approval on videos, but things were out of our control,” Spivak told NJ Advance Media. “We were in the middle of opening, my son came down with a throat infection.”

Spivak went on to say that a miscommunication with marketing led the marketing manager to think the video was approved for posting, though “it never should have went.”

According to the report from NJ Advance Media, the restaurant later posted an apology video with Dawn Spivak and Nick George (the owner of Edgly Marketing Group, who helped produce the content), though it was removed after it received further backlash.
