Man Charged With Assault, DWI In Crash With Cyclist In Point Pleasant

The man was one of six people charged with driving while intoxicated in May, police said.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Two drivers were charged with driving while intoxicated following crashes in Point Pleasant in May, including one where the driver hit a bicyclist, Point Pleasant police said.

Those arrests were among six people charged with DUIs in May in police blotter released recently by the police department.

On May 21, Alex Johnson, 49, of Point Pleasant, was charged with assault by auto and driving while intoxicated after a crash involving a bicyclist, police said. The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m.; the bicyclist suffered minor injuries. Officer Robert Tobias responded to the crash.

On May 19, Richard Hernandez-Santiago, 18, of Brick, was arrested following a crash about 4:50 a.m. on Route 88 near the Veterans Memorial Bridge. His car overturned in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said. Officer Jesse Waterson was the arresting officer.

There also was a warrant arrest. On May 20, Dana Serrano, 38, of Sayreville, was arrested in connection with outstanding warrants from East Brunswick Municipal Court totaling $10,000 by Officer Robert Tobias. She was turned over to the East Brunswick Police Department in default of cash bail.

Also charged with driving while intoxicated were:

On May 4, John Bruno, 25, of Brick was arrested following a stop about 2:20 a.m. on Route 88 near the Brick Township border. Officer Michael Cappello was the arresting officer.

On May 5, Brendan Coyle, 30, of Lumberton, was arrested following a stop on Sea Point Drive about 8:20 p.m. for what police said were numerous motor vehicle violations. He was charged with several motor vehicle violations. Officer Robert Tobias was the arresting officer.

On May 5, Ian Dyer, 23, of Brick, was arrested following a stop on Catherine Street about 8:05 p.m. where police said he was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Special Law Enforcement Officer Justin Tuzzolino pulled him over.

On May 26, Daniel O’Shaughnessy, 32, of Toms River, was arrested following a stop on Route 88 about 2:30 a.m. where police said he was tailgating. Officer Pierce Drzymkowski was the arresting officer.
