Memorial School In Point Boro Goes All-Remote Due To COVID-19

Recent COVID-19 cases compelled the Point Pleasant Boro district to switch the school to all-remote. Here's what you should know.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – Recent COVID-19 cases compelled the Point Pleasant Boro School District to switch Memorial Middle School to all-remote this week.

In a letter to the district, Superintendent Vincent Smith said the district was notified that members of the Memorial Middle School community have tested positive for COVID-19.

The school administration and school nurse have contacted the Ocean County Health Department and families of the students involved to initiate contact tracing, he said.

"At this time, we are putting 'a pause' on in-person learning at Memorial Middle School and will transition to full-time remote learning effective Dec. 21, 2020 through Dec. 23, 2020 to ensure the safety of our school community," he said.

Students will follow the current class schedule from 7:30 to 11:35 a.m. with office hours available on Monday and Tuesday. Students will resume attending in-person instruction on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.

He said Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School, Ocean Road Elementary School and Point Pleasant High School will continue with their current in-person instruction schedules.

Any parent of a Memorial Middle School student with children in other district schools that has additional questions or concerns should reach out to your child’s school nurse.

Middle school families who have ordered meals for the week of Dec. 21st can pick-up your child’s meal up at the main entrance of Memorial Middle School beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The district will continue contact tracing to determine if the people with positive test results had close contact with any others while at school.
