POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — When the Strollo family announced last fall that they were closing the Strollo's Lighthouse Italian ice shop in Point Pleasant Beach, the shop's fans spoke out, sharing childhood memories and their disappointment at the closure.

Among the disappointments was that it had always been an easy bicycle ride for locals on a summer evening, with its location at 101 Ocean Ave. North, at Broadway.

That closure has prompted another family to step into the fray, and on Tuesday a new ice cream shop was revealed for that spot.

Salty's Inlet Ice Cream will be taking over the building, the new owners announced.

"It’s time Point Pleasant Beach! The Salardino family is thrilled to unveil Salty’s Inlet Ice Cream, blending 45 years of our Point Beach memories," the family announced on Facebook. "We aim to be your go-to dessert spot."

A business filing lists David Salardino as the business agent. Salardino's wife, Stephanie, for several years ran a one-night holiday toy drive to benefit local children in the Point Pleasant area, and the couple has owned a summer home in the borough for many years.

"Keep an eye out for specials, weekly deals, and contests all summer long!" the new shop's Facebook post said. "We are hiring, so look for a job fair to be posted soon. Join us and help make our first season one to remember! We look forward to meeting you all, and exceeding your expectations."
