NJ Transit Rail Crossings to Close on Sunday

Rail delivery train was originally scheduled to arrive on Saturday, but inclement weather forecasts prompting postponement

NJ Transit is expecting to deliver railroad materials on Sunday, which will force closures of grade crossings and many other locations from Spring Lake to Bay Head.

The original plan was for deliveries to be made on Saturday.

However, due to inclement weather forecast for Saturday, NJ Transit has rescheduled delivery of railroad materials for the following day.

said NJ Transit has been in touch with them and they will monitor the deliveries and closures to see if any detours or other measures become necessary.

The delivery work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in Spring Lake and proceeding south to Bay Head.

NJ Transit officials said on Friday afternoon that they do not know what time the deliveries might be made in the Point Beach area.

Because of the length of the train—2,000 feet—vehicular traffic at railroad grade crossings will be impacted for approximately 20-minute periods when the train stops for workers to unload the materials.

The railroad materials will be used for a track replacement project on the North Jersey Coast Line that will begin this spring.

In Point Beach and Bay Head, there will be closures at the following locations:

  • Broadway
  • Arnold Avenue
  • Forman Avenue
  • Atlantic Avenue
  • New Jersey Avenue
  • Washington Avenue
  • Route 35 (by The Arc restaurant)

 Bay Head

  • Osborne Avenue

In other towns, the impacted crossings are as follows:

Spring Lake

  • Church Street
  • Ludlow Avenue
  • St. Clair Avenue
  • Brighton Avenue
  • Warren Avenue
  • Monmouth Avenue
  • Ocean Road
  • Shore Road

 Manasquan

  • Stockton Lake Avenue
  • East Main Street
  • Fisk Avenue
  • Green Avenue

Sea Girt

  • Beacon Boulevard
  • Washington Avenue

NJ Transit has coordinated with local officials and police departments in the affected towns. In addition, NJ Transit staff will be on hand at each of the grade crossings to manually open and close the gates as the train goes by.

A second delivery train is expected in February.
