Pedestrian Crash Rates have reached a new high !
The state of New Jersey has a serious pedestrian safety problem ! Data from 2023 & 2024 shows the problem is getting worse. .
The Woman's Club of Point Pleasant has formed a new committee to address pedestrian safety. Patricia Zambrano, the chairwoman of the Pedestrian, Bicycle and Vehicle Safety Committee wants to make people aware that NJ has the highest pedestrian fatalities in the Country. In 2022, 28% of the people killed, were pedestrians. 1 pedestrian is killed every 2 days in NJ. This was the highest rate in the country which overall was only 18%. New Jersey roads are very congested, and people are driving very aggressively, & are distracted. The Woman's Club hopes to bring awareness of this very deadly situation to all so that we can reduce, or hopefully eliminate these tragedies.
Our committee has partnered with Vision Zero NJ and Families for Safe Streets. You can research them on-line. They do great work to help reduce fatalities, and provide support for families who have lost loved ones due to traffic violence.
The Vision Zero Alliance, part of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, has been working with towns in NJ to promote safety measures that will lead to zero pedestrian deaths. Preventing life changing and life ending tragedies is our Woman's Club of Point Pleasant Safety committees goal.
