POINT PLEASANT—The Point Pleasant Borough Police Department has been offering stickers to the public to raise awareness about autism all this month.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and the goal is to help build understanding and awareness of the autistic and developmentally disabled community.

Research shows that people with autism and other developmental disabilities have more encounters with law enforcement, and sometimes their actions can be misinterpreted by law enforcement, so by not only having been trained in basic autism awareness, Point Pleasant Borough police are giving out stickers to help the community-at-large become more aware as well.

The awareness sticker that they are giving out represents the complexity of the autism spectrum and their dedication to providing advanced support to those that are developmentally disabled.

If you are interested in getting a sticker, please email Lt. Christopher Leonhardt at cleonhardt@ptboropd.com.
