POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ –Towns across the state and country have tried to figure out the best way for local businesses to get back on their feet as the restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted.

Point Pleasant Beach is one of these towns, having lost out on a whole summer’s worth of tourism and visitors to the town last year. According to Carol Vaccaro of the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce, getting the town’s businesses back on their feet was the goal of the Chamber.

“After the pandemic, when the Chamber of Commerce got back together, we knew we had to make a lot of changes,” Vaccaro said.

Working with a new member of the Chamber, Adapting Social, which Point Pleasant Beach alum Christopher Iafelice runs, the chamber came up with an official hashtag to unify the town, its history, and its businesses: #POINTmetotheBEACH.

Both Vaccaro and Iafelice felt that bringing everything Point Pleasant Beach under the only hashtag would get not only more eyes on events and businesses in town but younger ones as well.

“We were finding different ways to get a different generation of people and promote the historical parts of the town as well as the businesses,” Iafelice said, adding that the response so far for the hashtag has been one of “overall joy.”

Iafelice said that while his company has worked with other municipalities in the past, the #POINTmetotheBEACH campaign stands out as it is one that unifies an entire community. The impact has already been felt, according to Vaccaro.

“It’s definitely getting eyes out there,” Vaccaro said. “Our goal is to get everyone using the hashtag.”
