Point Pleasant Beach Plans For A Safer Summer

Borough officials looking for ways to keep vehicles off the boardwalk.

Point Pleasant Beach police, local officials and representatives from Jenkinson's Boardwalk are mulling over ways to put up barriers to keep vehicles off the boardwalk ramps this summer, according to the Ocean Star.

"What we are talking about is ramps up to the boardwalk," said Councilman Robert Santanello at a recent Borough Council meeting. "How do we stop a truck from driving up there? There a lot of different ways to do it."

Lt. Joseph Michigan said stakeholders meet on periodically to discuss safety concerns and improve security.

Safety on the boardwalk is a major concern, said Jenkinson's spokesperson Tobey Wolf.

"Obviusly, times have changed and things are different these days and we just want to mke sure we are doing everything we can to be proactive to ensure the safety of visitors and staff," she said.

Point Beach had to shut down the popular annual Festival of the Sea event in September 2016 had to be shut down due to the detonation of a bomb in nearby Seaside Park.

The borough recently added a bomb-sniffing dog to its K9 unit. Officials have not released any details of what safety measures they are considering for the ramps.
