Point Pleasant Boro Expands In-School Classes: Here's The Latest

POINT PLEASANT BORO – The Point Pleasant Boro School District has begun its plans to expand in-school instruction, allowing five half days for students.

On Oct. 19th, special education resource students and English language learners were allowed back for five days. On Monday, special education in-class resource students/speech/504 students were allowed to begin the same schedule..

"I think what we've been doing is a safe plan," Superintendent Vincent Smith said.

Smith said the district may confront situations that it can't control, such as social gatherings that could spread the coronavirus.

After Oct. 19, about 41 students were expected to return for five half days and 40 remained on remote learning, Smith said.

With the latest phase, the district said Nellie Bennett could have 14 returning for five days and 13 stay remote.

At Ocean Road, 15 could come back for five half days and six stay remote. At Memorial Middle School, 35 could go to school while 16 stay remote.

At Point Pleasant Boro High School, 14 could go to five in-person half days and 13 stay remote.

"At this point I'd say were still on target," Smith said. "I think overall it's working."

Remote learning will remain as an option.

"Class sizes will increase due to combining of the two cohorts that are now in place, and social distancing will be practices to the greatest extent possible due to the building capacity limits," Smith has said. "All students and staff will continue to be required to wear masks."

• Oct. 19th: Special Education Resource Students and English Language Learners
• Oct. 26th: Special Education In Class Resource Students/Speech/504 Students
• Nov. 9: All General Education Students
