Point Pleasant Boro Is Planning In-Person, Outdoor Graduation

POINT PLEASANT BORO – The Point Pleasant Boro School District said it is now planning to hold an outdoor, in-person graduation for seniors.

Superintendent Vincent Smith wrote a letter to the district that announced its plans after Gov. Phil Murphy provided guidance on in-person outdoor graduation ceremonies that are permitted beginning on July 6.

First, Smith said, critical factors "must be clarified and addressed in consultation with local officials."

"I want to assure you that we are all committed to holding an in-person outdoor graduation ceremony that prioritizes the health and safety of students, staff and community," Smith said.

"When all elements of conducting an outdoor graduation ceremony are finalized, in compliance with the requirements for in-person gatherings, I will update you with the plan to be implemented."

In addition to the in-person outdoor ceremony, the district is proceeding with the virtual graduation that will created and made available on its website on Friday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m.

"An outdoor graduation ceremony is a long-standing tradition for Point Pleasant Boro High School seniors," Smith said. "We are committed to continuing this right of passage within state guidelines and limitations to ensure a memorable and safe celebration for all."
