Whoosh Down a Water Slide, Climb a Wall and More at Summerfest Today!

UPDATE: NEW PHOTOS

A giant water slide, a climbing wall, lots of inflatable rides and four kinds of live musical entertainment are just a few of the reasons to come to Summerfest today.

Originally, The Passion Group, running the event, had intended to have a ferris wheel at Summerfest. Unfortunately, that did not work out due to unforeseen circumstances. However, there is a giant water slide (in photo), other water slides and lots of rides and games for kids.

The event, sponsored by the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, is running until 7 p.m. at on Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road. Last year was the first year the festival was moved off Bridge Avenue into the park.

And rest assured: is at Summerfest again.

In 2011, Summerfest introduced a huge 40' slide, along with mechanical rides such as the spinning tea cups and the gyro-jump. Those are back, along with a climbing wall and additional inflatable rides.

Summerfest is continuing its long tradition of providing free face painting for the little ones along with a variety of strolling performers, clowns and balloon artists.

In addition to all of the great Jersey Shore festival foods including Jersey Fresh Seafood, Smokin' BBQ, roasted Jersey corn, kettle corn, funnel cakes, Zeppoles, and of course, Boardwalk Fries, Summerfest is showcasing the greater Point community's own Shore Fresh Seafood, Ralph's Italian Ice and the Point Lobster Company.

To rinse all that down, there are a variety of beverages on-site including a selection of Barefoot Wines, Coors Light, craft beers and non-alcoholic beverages, including an all-you-can-drink fountain soda vendor.

Alcoholic beverages are being served in a cordoned-off beer and wine garden.

Sharon Malone opened up the morning with the National Anthem, to be followed by bands with diverse musical influences.

A variety of craft and specialty vendors, along with numerous local businesses and community organizations will also have displays at Summerfest.

Don't come empty handed! Summerfest is a non-perishable food collection point for Move for Hunger (see related story on Patch).

Move For Hunger was established to strengthen the efforts of our communities' food banks, while actively engaging in America's hunger fight.

The Move for Hunger drop-off for non-perishable food is between the park's permanent playground equipment and the Chamber of Commerce booth.
