The Snake in the Lake Slithered into a Poem

Point Beach resident Vincent Castin is moved to write poetry amid reports of a possible large reptile in Silver Lake

Nothing brings out poetry in Vincent Castin like a slithery, slippery, slimy snake.

For some, recent sightings of a possible snake swimming in Silver Lake were shocking, baffling, worrisome or weird.

For Point Beach resident Castin, a lakefront resident, the news was reason to put pen to paper and then read his creation aloud at Tuesday night's Point Beach Council meeting.

The Point Beach resident, known for often closing municipal council meetings by reading his poetry, read this one in the middle of a four and a half hour meeting after saying, "My apologies to Dr. Seuss."

Snake in the Lake

A snake in the lake!!

Oh, what should we make

Of this snake in the lake?

Is it real ?

Is it fake?

This snake in the lake

Grown men will shiver

And children will quake

Because of this snake

This snake in the lake

Does it slither, hither and yon

So you might only see it at dusk or at dawn?

Does it leave any tracks or a watery wake?

What does it do, this snake in the lake?

Does it eat chicken?

Does it eat steak?

Lets hope it eats garbage

To clean up the lake

How will he be captured?

What will it take

To get rid of this snake

This snake in the lake

Will it climb on thick algae

That circles the lake

To bask in the sun

This snake in the lake

He has no sun block

Which isn’t too wise

And this I fear

Will cause his demise

Now a food fest will follow

A giant snake bake

And all will partake

Of the snake in the lake
