Bribery Charges For Princeton Official Amid Illegal Dumping Case

The county prosecutor's office and Princeton police, investigating an illegal dumping case, brought charges against Thomas Hughes.

PRINCETON, NJ — The former manager of a Princeton sewer department facility has been charged with second-degree bribery, police said in a release. Authorities say Thomas Hughes accepted payments to influence his official duties.

Police say the charge is a result of an investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and Princeton Police Department into illegal dumping at the Princeton Sewer Operating Plant.

The investigation is ongoing and information is limited, police said.

According to a Planet Princeton report, Hughes is accused of allowing private contractors to use the facility for dumping dirt, asphalt and other materials.

He was fired on June 6, the outlet reported.
