“The Food Network called a couple of days ago and said we were chosen as a fan favorite because we were one of the top viewed episodes,” she said.

In less than four years, the Bzdewkas' cupcake business has skyrocketed to fame.

A couple of years ago Ruthie Bzdewka received an email from the Food Network asking if she wanted to audition for Cupcake Wars, a national bake-off featuring the country’s top bakers of the tasty delicacy.

Bzdewka thought the email was a joke until the television network followed up with a phone call.

The couple not only became contestants, but also won the show.

Now people travel to try the couple’s cupcakes, where Ron Bzdewka typically serves as the head baker and his wife runs the store and bakes. Their two sons are cupcake tasters and unofficial greeters.

The Bzdewkas have appeared on the Food Network channel three times and have participated in area food events with Buddy “The Cake Boss” Valastro, and chefs Sunny Anderson and Robert Irvine.

“It’s opened up tremendous doors for us,” Ruthie Bzdewka said, saying that customers come in and take pictures with the couple and ask for autographs. Last year she catered her cupcakes at the MTV music awards pre-party.

As for the success of their business, Ruthie Bzdewka told Patch last year it’s simple.

“We use the best ingredients we can find and go local when we can. We get eggs, butter and dairy from Halo Farms. We do candy apples in the fall and we go to Terhune Orchards for that. We try to support as much of Princeton as we can because that’s who supports us.”
