Princeton Launches Adopt-A-Drain Program to Combat Neighborhood Flooding

Volunteers will help remove litter from the drain and the surrounding 10 feet on either side.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton has introduced a community program aimed at adopting and cleaning storm drains to prevent flooding and associated messes.

The program encourages residents to sign up on the city's website, choose a drain to maintain, and receive a welcome package with safety equipment and trash bags.

Volunteers will help remove litter from the drain and the surrounding 10 feet on either side.

The Municipality has released a map with all storm drains mentioned.

There is also a registration from interested parties to fill out before volunteering.

“Why do we want to clean our storm drains? Because if they get blocked up, we have flooding,” Mayor Mark Freda said in a video released on the Municipality’s Facebook page.

“We have flooding in the street. The flooding can back up your driveway anyway. It's a mess.”
