PRINCETON — The Princeton Police Department announced earlier this week that its Safe Neighborhood Bureau will be rebranded as the Community Relations Bureau.

The change better represents the unit's mission and daily operations, officials said.

The name change, which takes effect immediately, reflects the department's continued emphasis on community policing and relationship-building with residents, according to a statement from the police department.

"This change reflects our continued commitment to community policing and strengthens our focus on building strong, positive relationships between our officers and the community we serve," the department said in its announcement.

Despite the new designation, police officials emphasized that the bureau's core services and responsibilities will remain unchanged. The unit will continue its work in fostering communication between law enforcement and Princeton residents while maintaining its dedication to public safety and community support.

"We believe this new name better aligns with the work we do every day to foster communication and connect with all members of our community," the statement continued.

The rebranding comes as police departments nationwide have increasingly focused on community engagement and relationship-building as key components of effective law enforcement.

Community policing strategies emphasize collaboration between officers and residents to identify and solve local public safety challenges.

The Princeton Police Department thanked residents for their ongoing support and partnership, noting that community cooperation remains essential to the department's mission.

"Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to make Princeton a great place to live, work, and visit," officials said.

The Community Relations Bureau will continue to serve as the department's primary liaison for community outreach, neighborhood safety initiatives, and resident engagement programs.
