PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton is about to see its first ever pride parade, meaning town residents should expect traffic, noise and, most importantly, a fantastic celebration. The parade is set to kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22.

The Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice is throwing the parade. "We are honored to stroll up Witherspoon St. and celebrate the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood welcoming our LGBTQIA community!" they said on their event page. "This event will be as fabulous as it is historic!"

According to the Bayard Rustin site, participants will be "marching, dancing, sashaying and rolling" from the Princeton Municipal Building to the YMCA.

Road Closures

Closures start around 10:15 a.m. Saturday to allow time for set up. There will be two major road closures:

  • Witherspoon Street between Valley Road and Wiggins Street
  • Paul Robeson Place between Route 206 and Witherspoon Street

The Community Park Pool will be open for its regular hours. Patrons are asked to access the pool via the intersection of Witherspoon and Valley Road and tell the officer there you're there to use the pool. Parking will be limited, as half of the lot will be dedicated to the parade from 7 to 11:30 a.m.

Parking

There's limited parking at the Municipal Building, so parade participants are encouraged by police to park in downtown Princeton near the end point in one of the garages, or at a metered stall not covered by an "Emergency No Parking" meter bag

There's additional parking on Valley Road and Witherspoon Street in front of Valley Road School:

  • Don't block driveways
  • Park at least 50 feet away from stop signs
  • Park at least 25 feet away from crosswalks
  • Park at least 10 feet away from fire hydrants
