Princeton’s Palmer Square To Host Derby Themed Event Thursday
The event is a do-over of a Kentucky Debry-themed event held earlier this month.
PRINCETON, NJ – On May 5, Princeton’s Palmer Square hosted the inaugural Downtown Derby and charity horse race in support of local community organizations. But incessant rains kept many from attending the fun event.
In an effort to raise awareness and funds for their partner charities, Palmer Square will host the Downtown Derby DO-OVER event on Thursday.
Thursday will be the final “Shop for a Cause,” night in the Square. Each week participating retailers and restaurants donated 10 percent of their sales between 5:30 p.m. -8 p.m. to the benefactor of the week. Community Options, Inc. is the final charity partner.

For the Grand finale, guests can expect a fun-filled evening of entertainment to accompany their shopping and dining experiences.
Some Assembly Required will take the stage at 6 p.m. playing all hits, and making a special appearance, will be Kym D, who will emcee the event and possibly even sing a song or two with the band.

EASEL will be on site with adoptable puppies, and attendees can fill out an application on the spot. There will be caricature drawings, a photo booth and so much more.
And for the main event, a charity wooden horse race will take place at 7 p.m. on the Green.
Each horse will represent their partner charities. By donating to their favorite horse, attendees will be supporting the local community.
This race will feature six horses/charities.
- Dignity (Community Options)
- Confident Connie (Dress For Success)
- Dogbiscuit (EASEL, Animal Rescue League)
- HomeFront Honey (HomeFront NJ)
- Hope (Womanspace)
- YWC-NAY (YWCA)
All of the charities will be present at the event and welcome the opportunity to speak to community members regarding their mission.
Dress for Success will be accepting donations of gently used handbags, jewelry, and accessories at their table on the Green.
Each person who donated throughout the month has received a chance to win a door prize. The prizes include experiences from around the Square such as an overnight stay at the Nassau Inn and several dinner gift cards. Names will be called at the end of the event.
