Suspected Coyote Attack On Dog In Princeton: Animal Control

Officials also released a list of areas with confirmed coyote sightings and activity.

PRINCETON, NJ – Officials in Princeton are reporting a suspected coyote attack in the Municipality.

On Monday, around 10 a.m., a resident on Random Road reported a suspected coyote attack on their small dog in the backyard, Princeton Animal Control said.

Princeton Animal Control is urging residents to be "wildlife aware," especially if they live near woods or waterways as coyotes like to move under the cover of forested areas.

“Small dogs (under 20 lbs) and outdoor cats are the most susceptible to coyote attacks. Coyote ranges can be large so it's possible that some of these animals are one in the same,” Animal Control said.

Here are some tips shared by Animal Control on how to keep pets safe:

  • Always walk your dog on a leash
  • If you do not have a good fenced-in yard, be in the yard with your pet when outside
  • Keep all food sources secure, such as trash, compost, cat food
  • Haze a coyote that is in your yard or roaming the streets of your neighborhood, shout, clap, bang pots and pans
  • Never feed wildlife
