Demographic Study Questioned by Ramsey Zoning Board
Board and residents question the tax impact of educating children who will be housed in proposed apartment complex on Island Road.

Russo Development appeared before the Ramsey Zoning Board to defend the demographic analysis they used to determine the number of children that would occupy the proposed 196-unit apartment complex they are seeking variance approval to build on the Ramsey Lumber Yard site on Island Road, according to a report published by Northjersey.com.
According to the report, the proposal includes the construction of three buildings on the 6.6 acre property consisting of 72 one-bedroom units, 98 two-bedroom units and 26 two-bedroom units with dens. The proposed site includes 4.6 acres of the lumber yard with an additional 2 acres property that sits adjacent to the site.
The concern of the board members and residents is the number of school-aged children that will be housed in the complex and the tax impact of educating these children. The developer, Edward Russo, anticipates a maximum of 36 children, contending that the complex will consist primarily of young childless couples, divorcees and empty nesters.
