Serious Crash Closes Route 10 In Morris County Thursday: Officials

RANDOLPH, NJ — A serious car crash has closed a section of State Route 10 in Randolph on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The collision was reported around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 656 (Millbrook Avenue) and State Route 10. As of 7:30 p.m., all lanes of NJ-10 are still closed from Millbrook Avenue to the area of Dover Hills Avenue and Hill Street, according to 511nj.org.

The crash caused massive traffic buildup on roads already overloaded with sinkhole refugees from the Route 80 detour. The New Jersey Department of Transportation said that drivers should "expect heavy congestion and additional delays," especially through the evening rush hour on Thursday.

"Both roads remain closed as first responders continue to work at the scene and a crash investigation can be completed later tonight," NJDOT said in a statement.

A detour is in place, and township officials also advised residents to plan alternate travel routes. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office is assisting Randolph Police with the investigation, officials said.

Randolph Township Schools alerted parents to the accident shortly before 4 p.m., noting that buses would be delayed as they sought alternate routes for student safety.

There is no official word yet on any injuries. Residents reported a medical helicopter being set up on the fields of Freedom Park on Millbrook Avenue.

Randolph Schools officials said their crisis response team has been notified about the crash, and that the district is "in contact with and working closely with local law enforcement as they complete their investigation."

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by these circumstances, and we understand how difficult this is for all involved in our community," the district said in a statement Thursday. "We do not have further information to share."

The statement continued: "Our primary focus remains on the safety and emotional well-being of our learning community. Supports and resources will be made available to anyone in our learning community, including those who may have been in the area."
