Support Grows for 4-Year-Old Injured in Fatal Route 10 Crash Involving School Van
Following the April 10 crash in Randolph, a fundraiser has been launched for 4-year-old Hunter, who was injured in the collision.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — In the wake of a tragic multi-vehicle crash in Randolph Township that claimed the lives of three adults and one child, an online fundraiser has been launched for 4-year-old Hunter, who was injured in the collision.
The four-vehicle crash on Route 10 happened at around 3:20 p.m. on April 10, near the intersection of County Road 656 (Millbrook Avenue) and Route 10. Four-year-old Yexsel Reyes Granados and at least two of the adult victims were traveling in a van that was transporting children from P.G. Chambers School, a nonprofit in Cedar Knolls, Hanover, that serves children with disabilities.
Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances leading to the crash.

Another child, Hunter, who has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and is wheelchair-bound, was hospitalized for his injuries, while two other adults were treated at the scene, officials said Friday morning.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover Hunter’s family’s ongoing medical expenses.
"Despite the pain, despite the trauma, Hunter keeps smiling, just like he always has," said Kiara Isaza, who started the fundraiser on behalf of Hunter's family. "His resilience is nothing short of remarkable. Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing Hunter and his family, know the light he brings to this world, even on his toughest days."
According to the fundraiser, immediately following the accident, Hunter was taken to the hospital and discharged, with doctors initially saying he was okay. However, his mother, Kristen, said she sensed something was wrong.
She noticed that her son was still in significant pain. After further examination, doctors discovered that Hunter had a broken collarbone, displaced hips, and a concerning spot on his brain, which now requires ongoing neurological evaluation, according to the GoFundMe page.
"Hunter’s road to recovery will be long and filled with not only physical healing but emotional healing as well. His family is navigating not only the grief of this devastating accident, but also the weight of the countless uncertainties ahead," Isaza wrote.
As of Monday morning, the campaign has raised nearly $10,000 of its $30,000 goal. To contribute, click here.
GoFundMe pages have also been started to support the families of Maria Figueroa and 4-year-old Yexsel, whose name is also spelled Dexsel in the GoFundMe.
The investigation, being conducted by the Randolph Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office CSI Unit, is ongoing.
Officials have asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Randolph Township Police Department at 973-989-7000 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit at 973-285-6200.
