Mayor Marie Potter’s Statement Regarding Ukraine at March 3, 2022 Township Council Meeting

“I wanted to make a statement about the Ukraine-Russian war. The people of Ukraine have come to our shores over the past one and a half centuries, many of whom have settled in our State of New Jersey, our County of Morris and our Township of Randolph. Many Ukrainian-Randolph families have family and friends in Ukraine and are suffering terribly from this Russian assault. One of these Ukrainian-Randolph families, Christine and Myron Bytz, has brought this Ukrainian flag here today to bring to the forefront that this conflict affects the people of Randolph. Our Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill posted on her social media a way to send relief to Ukraine. She recommended dropping off supplies to the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey  in Whippany. On the center’s website are the details of the relief drive they are having this weekend.

Randolph has a history of supporting Ukraine - specifically noted in the 2014 Resolution No. 105-14, which needs to be emphasized today, where it was resolved that the governing body of the Township of Randolph expresses its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have given their lives in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. May God Bless the Ukrainian people during this difficult time.”

Mayor Potter recognized that former Mayor Roman Hirniak was in attendance. In 2014, Former Mayor Hirniak and the Council presented a resolution to Father Roman Mirchuk from the Ukrainian-American Cultural Center of New Jersey, and Ukrainian Consul General Igor Sybiga memorializing support for the fight of democracy in Ukraine and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Former Mayor Hirniak thanked the Council and Randolph Township for their continued support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian-American community in Randolph Township.

• Collection for the humanitarian aid drive to help the victims of the Russian War Against Ukraine is happening this weekend at The Ukrainian Center in Whippany, NJ.
  • Collection Dates: Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
  • View a list of items needed 
• The Ukrainian Community of Livingston  is organizing a rally at the gazebo on the Livingston Memorial Oval from 2:15 - 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, for neighbors, friends and family to show their support and solidarity for Ukraine.
• Westfield resident and Kyiv native, Max Ryvkin , started an online fundraiser  to support Ukraine.
