This weekend in the Red Bank-Shrewsbury area is one of waterfront fun and charity. And you can take in a show and some food and wine, too, if you like.
Events for the benefit of children and post-Sandy Sea Bright …
Friday and Saturday morning is the Jay Dooley Memorial Foundation Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at Holy Cross school in Rumson. For more details, click here.
On Saturday, the decades-old Dunesday, minus Donovan's Reef, will be back in Sea Bright as the area's renowned beach bash and fundraiser of the summer. This year, the event will be based out of the Mad Hatter rather than Donovan's, the summer standard that was flattened by Hurricane Sandy.
Proceeds for the all-day (noon to 10 p.m.) event benefit Sea Bright Fire Rescue (including first aid) and will feature the music of Brian Kirk & the Jirks, Pat Guadagno, G-Band, Guns 4 Hire, Screaming Nudes and more. Entrance will on the beach stairway behind the Mad Hatter. The fee is $20 for adults 21 and older.
On Sunday, Shore Paddle with a Purpose will set up at Victory Park in Rumson for it's third annual stand-up eight-mile paddle board race on the river to and from Red Bank Marina and five-mile fun ride for kayakers, stand-up and prone paddlers. Proceeds from the event benefit Sea Bright Rising and Sisters Academy in Asbury Park.
The event starts at 9 a.m. with waterfront yoga warm-up. There will be displays, demonstrations and activities for the whole morning.
Shows, food and wine …
Red Bank Flavour's Food and Wine Walk is on Sunday, featuring food from several downtown restaurants. Admission is $35. For more details click here.
And, if you haven't yet, now's your last chance to see Phoenix Productions' Music Man in it's final weekend run. The show, staged at the Count Basie Theatre, has an 8 p.m. curtain on Saturday and closes with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
Of course, on Sunday the Red Bank Farmers' Market will be in the parking lot of the Galleria from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
