Between a Tree and a Hard Place

Driver crashes into another when they try to make a right turn from the left lane.

A driver trying to make a right turn from the left lane of Route 35 in Shrewsbury plowed into the back of a sports utility vehicle, slamming it into a roadside tree and injuring the driver in the process.

According to Shrewsbury police, the driver of the vehicle that struck the tree complained of pain their neck, back and legs, and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The accident occurred just before 9 p.m. in the northbound lane of Route 35 across the street from the Americana Diner. Police were on the scene until about 10 p.m. with the right lane closed as a tow truck was used to separate the two vehicles and take them away.

The names and ages of those involved in the accident were not immediately available. Though the accident remains under investigation, police said that the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident will likely receive summons for reckless driving for their role in the crash.
