Candidate Murphy In Red Bank Election Gets Union Endorsement

AFL-CIO of New Jersey endorses Sean Murphy, a union member, who is running for Borough Council on the Red Bank Together slate.

RED BANK, NJ — The New Jersey State AFL-CIO has endorsed candidate Sean Murphy for Red Bank Borough Council in the upcoming special election May 9.

Murphy, a lifelong Red Bank resident, is a member of the Red Bank Together ticket.

The union said in its statement that Murphy “shares our values and is committed to improving the lives of working families. He will fight for an economy that works for all.”

“Sean is a proud union member and community volunteer,” the endorsement said.

Murphy is lead foreman on large projects at Schindler Elevator and is a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 1, according to his campaign bio.

Murphy has been active in Red Bank as a firefighter, baseball and soccer coach, Parks and Recreation Committee member and Zoning Board member.

After passing a referendum last November to move to a nonpartisan form of government, Red Bank voters will hold elections May 9 for all Borough Council seats and for mayor.

There are 13 candidates for six seats on the Borough Council and two candidates for mayor, Tim Hogan of Red Bank Together and the current Mayor Billy Portman of the Red Bank's Ready slate.

“I’m very proud to have the support of my union," Murphy said, adding he hopes his slate will be elected to "dedicate ourselves to keeping Red Bank the place we love to call home.
