Going to the Dogs, Movies, Blood Drive

It's what's going on Tuesday in the Red Bank-Shrewsbury area.

By Elaine Van Develde

Good morning, Red Bank and Shrewsbury area friends and fans! Good news.

The weather troll (my own new term of endearment for the National Weather Service) says it's going to be sunny today with a high near 79 degrees. It's supposed to be clear tonight, too, which makes for great weather conditions to go to the dogs in Red Bank. That brings us to …

Activities/Events …

Tonight is the first in a (last Tuesday of each month) series of Dog Days of Summer in the borough. A section of Monmouth Street will be cordoned off, only allowing pooches and their human parents … or whatever you proud pup owners want to call yourselves.

Should make for, yes, a howling good time. Had to say it, ya know. The weather being nice, it won't be "ruff" on the dogs, either. Come on over, doggone it! OK, I'm done.

There's also a blood drive this evening, sponsored by none other than the Red Bank Roller Vixens. "Out for blood!" they are, their flyer says. That will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Little Silver Firehouse, 543 Prospect Avenue.

And, Shore Flicks is showing the classic Monty Python & the Holy Grail at Riverside Gardens Park. It's like a drive-in without the car. And you get a view of the river while you watch. All they ask is that you bring some non-perishable food donations to benefit those in need. Good deal.

Foodie Fun …

Speaking of good deal, the lobster night is back on again at Boondocks Fishery: two lobsters with corn and potatoes for $24.95.

It's Two-Bite Tuesdays at Sugarush. Check the Facebook page for an update on what it is.

It's Lucky 7s at Teak, too. That means you get $7 top shelf drinks and $7 appetizers from 4 to 7 p.m.

And, there's a three-course menu for $25 at Dish on Tuesdays and, in fact, Wednesdays.

Check the Red Bank Flavour site for more.

Recommendation of the day: a sub from Elsie's to take to the movie or just about anywhere. Try the number 5, 14 or 15. Translated, that's either the turkey with mayo and cranberry or one of two varieties of Italian sub. And don't forget the hot peppers.

Coming up …

We will finally feature our business throwback this week and, of course, we'll have photos of Dog Days of Summer. There are a few more surprises up our sleeves (me and those imaginary assistants again).

In the meantime, see you around the towns …
