Hands on with Some Big Time Toys

The Monmouth Day Care Center plays hosts to hundreds of families and more than a dozen trucks for its Touch a Truck event.

Those yellow trucks in the sandbox haven’t got a thing on this.

In the Red Bank Middle School parking lot Saturday, hundreds of children got a chance to learn and play with the real thing as hosted its second annual Touch a Truck event.

The event gave families the chance to experience the real thing with more than a dozen different vehicles on display, including everything from a Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department engine, one of the borough’s shiny brand new waste disposal trucks, and even a limousine, among others.

Day Care Center Executive Director Heidi Zaentz, from the hotdog cart line, said event helped raise funds for the day care as well as the Junior League of Monmouth County. The event first launched a year ago and was such a success that the day care decided to bring it back.

All of the trucks were donated by area businesses and public organizations and the event was completely staffed by volunteers, including students from the Biotech High School in Freehold and Middletown South High School.
