Juilliard-Bound Dance Student Assaulted at Party
Anthony Tiedeman, 18, was apparently assaulted without provocation at a weekend party following Red Bank Regional's recent graduation.
A Red Bank Regional graduate on his way to New York City’s Juilliard School of Dance was assaulted without provocation, police said, while attending a party Sunday night on Spring Street in Red Bank.
Police were called to a home at approximately 10:20pm following a noise complaint from a neighbor. When they arrived they found the party dispersing, as well as a victim of assault.
Anthony Tiedeman, 18, was attacked by multiple suspects, police said, and suffered numerous facial injuries, including a broken jaw and a broken tooth, as well as other superficial injuries. He was transported to Riverview Medical Center and eventually released following surgery to set his jaw.

Red Bank Police Capt. Darren McConnell said the fight was unprovoked and absolved Tiedeman of any and all blame for his role in what was “not a mutual altercation.”
The cause of the fight is still unknown, as too is the motivation of the suspects implicated in the attack. Though no names were released, McConnell said the police have some idea of who was responsible for the attack and said each suspect being sought is in their late teens, though he declined to say how many were involved in the incident.

Some, but not all, of the suspects may have attended Red Bank Regional, McConnell said. Police are investigating the incident but McConnell said, as of right now, there’s no indication that it was a bias crime, though he did not rule out the possibility.
Tiedeman, a Spring Street resident, was one of 26 dancers – just one of 13 boys – out of 560 dancers from across the country admitted to the prestigious Juilliard Dance program. Teideman, who specializes in Jazz and Modern Dance, has choreographed his own routines and performed at Red Bank Regional as well as numerous dance and performing arts companies in the area.
Reached by telephone at their Spring Street home, the Tiedeman family declined immediate comment.
