
Red Bank resident and area lawyer Jeffrey Merrill Nolen died at 59 on July 12 at UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, MA, after a short illness.
Nolen, who had homes in both Red Bank and at Lakewood Park, Westminster, MA, was born on April 19, 1954 to the late John and Betty (Merrill) Nolen. An attorney with Central Lawyers Service, Inc., Freehold, Nolen had served as president of the organization. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond with a degree in Political Science, and earned his Juris Doctor from Western New England University in 1979, according to legacy.com.
Nolen, a member of the car club Movin' On Cruisers, was an organizer of many charity car shows. He was known to love model trains, vintage cars, hunting and history who sent care packages to the troops, coached football and more, the obituary added.
Lakewood Park, known as his second residence, has been his family's camp for more than 100 years. He rebuilt it and took a lot of pride in the restoration. It is where he and his family forged lifetime friendships as well.
Jeff is survived by: his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Sheila (Grizzard) Nolen; his mother, Betty Nolen; his sons, Jeremy Merrill Nolen, and wife Alycia, of Bayville, and John William Nolen III, and fiancé, Laura Hanratty, of Springfield, MA; his granddaughter, Vivianne Nolen; his aunt, Rachel Witt, of KS; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There was a memorial gathering and service on Thursday, July 18, at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 22, at 11:30 a.m. with calling hours before the funeral from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Westminster, MA. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
