Christopher S. McAvoy

Age: 49
Town of Residence: Shrewsbury
Education: Bachelor of Science in Biology & Psychology
Occupation: Facilities Technician, Major Telecommunications Company

What drove you to seek public office?
I’ve lived in Shrewsbury for more than 21 years, where my wife and I have raised our three children. For the past 20 years, I’ve also been proud to volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 50, and I have had the privilege of serving on the Borough Land Use Board.

When the opportunity arose to join the Borough Council, I saw it as a natural extension of that same commitment to service — an opportunity to keep Shrewsbury moving in the right direction, uphold fiscal responsibility, preserve our special way of life, and continue supporting the first responders who keep our community safe.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?
I bring a blue-collar perspective shaped by more than 32 years working for a major telecommunications company. My background gives me a strong appreciation for hard work, problem-solving, and accountability.

My wife and I have raised our three children here in Shrewsbury, where they attended Shrewsbury Borough School, Red Bank Regional, and High Technology High School. That experience has given me a deep understanding of our community and the values that make Shrewsbury such a great place to live and raise a family.

Having served on the Land Use Board for several years, I’ve developed a strong respect for how our town operates and for the dedicated people who keep it running smoothly. I’m committed to continuing to bring that same practical, hands-on approach to Council — focused on teamwork, transparency, and doing what’s right for our residents.

What past accomplishments or experiences make you qualified for this position?
As a member of the Borough Council, I’ve gained a strong understanding of the responsibilities of both elected officials and residents in shaping Shrewsbury’s future. My years on the Land Use Board and long-term community involvement have shown me how collaboration and open communication lead to effective, common-sense decisions.

I take pride in listening, learning, and working with others to get things done. Serving the community has been an honor, and I’m committed to continuing that work with integrity and dedication to the residents of Shrewsbury.

If elected, what will be your top priorities?
I will continue to focus on smart, responsible development that protects Shrewsbury’s character while meeting the community’s long-term needs. Controlling municipal costs and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely will remain a top priority, along with maintaining the high level of services our residents expect and deserve. I will also continue to support and advocate for our first responders, who keep our community safe every day.

Working together with the Mayor, Council, and residents, I will continue the work to ensure that Shrewsbury remains such a great place to live and raise a family.

Name one thing about Shrewsbury Borough that always makes you smile.
What always makes me smile is the genuine sense of community that defines Shrewsbury. It’s the kind of town where neighbors look out for one another, lend a hand when someone needs help, and truly care about the people around them. When someone asks, “How are you?” they mean it. That spirit of kindness and connection makes Shrewsbury the standard for what a great small town should be — a place where families grow, friendships thrive, and pride runs deep.
