Shrewsbury Declares Emergency, Enacts Curfew

Those who remain in the borough are asked to stay inside from 9 p.m. to noon Sunday.

Shrewsbury has declared a state of emergency, it’s office of emergency management recently announced. The declaration, according to a post on the borough’s site, includes a complete motor vehicle restriction and borough-wide curfew from between 9 p.m. tonight, and noon Sunday.

Earlier Saturday, Shrewsbury asked residents living in various low-lying neighborhoods to voluntarily evacuate. The streets identified by Shrewsbury’s voluntary evacuation order are Blades Run, Dorchester Way, Sunnybank Drive, Trafalgar Place and Monroe Avenue. However, Shrewsbury police said in a posted statement, if you live in a home where it floods following heavy rain, you should consider evacuating to some place higher, or more inland.

Before leaving your home, however, remember to turn off all household utility services at your main shut-off.
