Train Catches Car in Red Bank

No injuries reported after a southbound train strikes a car in Red Bank.

A woman driving a late-model sports utility vehicle over the train tracks near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Bergen Place was struck by a southbound train Monday night, after she apparently failed to heed warnings about the oncoming train.

A New Jersey Transit Police officer on the scene said the woman, whose identity was not immediately available, did not suffer any serious injuries in the accident, which did not appear to be too serious, despite the involvement of a train.

It was not immediately clear why the driver attempted to cross as a train, which had just recently departed from the nearby Red Bank Train Station, was coming down the tracks.
