RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed head on into an SUV that sent him and the other driver, an 80-year-old woman, to the hospital, authorities said.

Thomas Michalski, 59, of Hawthorne, was driving south on North Monroe Street and crossed over the double-yellow line, when he hit the Waldwick woman, who was traveling north, Ridgewood police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said.

Michalski, who was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, was charged with a DWI and other driving violations after the Friday night crash. He and the woman were then taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, Luthcke said.
