GLEN ROCK, NJ — As police and federal officials continue investigating checks swiped from mailboxes in and around Glen Rock, two more reports have come in saying some were stolen right in front of the local post office.

Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said this week that two residents mailed checks from the mailbox in front of the post office on Glen Avenue, and the checks have since been fraudulently cashed.

The total loss was $23,523.74, Ackermann said. The victims notified their banks of the fraud.

The checks were mailed nearly a month apart, Ackermann noted —on Jan. 20 and then on Feb. 16.

"Over the past several months, numerous reports of this nature have been received concerning checks mailed in both Glen Rock and other area communities," Ackermann said.
