JERSEY CITY, NJ — Got warm beverages for the cold winter weather? A slew of new restaurants and cafés have recently opened or are set to open in North Jersey.

Here are five restaurants that opened in North Jersey in or around December 2024:

Cheongsu, Fort Lee

The team behind a "Korean wellness" restaurant called Oncheon in Manhattan have now opened a Korean dessert café in Fort Lee.

Cheongsu "blends Korean tradition with nature-inspired design, offering everything from signature soufflés and yakgwa to misutgaru lattes and sparkling yuzu ade," the creators said. "Cheongsu invites you to savor moments of calm through exceptional flavors and serene surroundings."

First Watch, Eatontown

First Watch is a popular breakfast and lunch restaurant nationwide, serving meals with fresh and healthy ingredients, and offering a juice and coffee bar.

The Eatontown location opened in mid-December at 133 Route 35, next to the Amazon Fresh grocery store. Read more about them here.

Calexico, Hoboken

Hoboken is full of locally owned coffee shops, but what's one more? Calexico opened around the new year on the west side of the mile-square city, offering a bevy of coffee drinks and baked goods.

One unique drink is the Marzipan latte. They're open every day starting at 7 a.m.

Kalimera Gyro, Morristown

Kalimera Gyro recently took over the former Effin Egg spot in Morristown, offering Greek dishes and desserts. They're located at 30 Morris St.

The Café at Journal Squared, Jersey City

Jersey City's Journal Square neighborhood, away from the waterfront, is transforming with residential towers and new businesses. A new café opened in the lobby of a residential tower on Dec. 9.

Presented by Almost Home, the Café at Journal Squared offers premium coffee drinks, matcha, baked goods, wraps and salads, with space to work. “KRE Group’s vision for Journal Squared has always been to create spaces that feel alive with energy and purpose,” said Jonathan Kushner, President of KRE Group. “This new café in the lobby is an example of how residential design can go beyond the basics and become a space where community and connection thrive.” Check it out inside Journal Squared at 595 Pavonia Ave. More information is here.
