American Dream CEO's Mansion Broken Into: NYPD
Around $140,000 worth of jewelry and handbags was stolen, authorities said.
The Bronx mansion of American Dream’s chief executive officer was broken into Saturday and nearly $140,000 in handbags and jewelry was stolen, according to authorities.
Around 5:15 p.m., burglars forced their way into Don Ghermezian’s Riverdale home through a rear balcony door and stole 30 purses and jewelry, according to New York City Police Department spokesperson Detective Denise Moroney.
The thieves took $140,000 worth of items before fleeing in an unknown direction, she said.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made, Moroney said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the burglary, she added.

Ghermezian, 46, is the chief executive officer of Triple Five Group, which owns American Dream in East Rutherford, the Mall of America in Minnesota and West Edmonton Mall in Canada.
American Dream partially opened Oct. 25 after several years of delays. For now, Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park and an NHL-size ice rink are ready for the public. Other attractions, shopping and dining will follow over the next several months at the $5 billion mega-mall.
