EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The state issued a temporary certificate of occupancy that allows American Dream to open as planned Friday, according to officials.

The temporary certificate of occupancy "ensures that the facility is safe to open and for people to occupy," Gina Trish, a Department of Community Affairs spokeswoman, said Thursday evening.

"Once all regulations are met under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, the facility will be issued a Certificate of Occupancy," Trish said.

The temporary OK for the Meadowlands mega-mall to open is good for 90 days and can be renewed if needed, she said.

NJ.com reported Wednesday afternoon that American Dream had yet to receive its certificate of occupancy and inspectors were still reviewing permits and making sure the venue was in compliance with all codes — just two days to go before the planned opening.

Other high-profile grand openings in New Jersey over the years delayed by permit issues included Steel Pier in Atlantic City and a Six Flags attraction, NJ.com reported.

During the planned opening, visitors won't get the full American Dream experience — which eventually is supposed to include more than 450 retail, dining destinations and entertainment venues — but they'll get a chance to see the world's largest indoor theme park.

When the $5 billion complex debuts, Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park and an NHL-size ice rink will be ready for the public. Other attractions, shopping and dining will follow over the next several months.
